The tripartite alliance marks a before and after in the Spanish BESS sector: cutting edge technology, first level engineering and integrated development under the same umbrella.
Today is a day that marks a milestone in Battman Storage‘s trajectory. Reference media such as Forbes España, Investing.com, Bolsamanía, El Periódico de la Energía, MarketScreener and the EFE agency have echoed a news that reflects the work, vision and commitment we have built during the last years: the formalization of a strategic alliance with Elecnor and Gotion to promote Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Spain. This is not a simple commercial agreement. It is an alliance that integrates three fundamental pillars of the sector under the same umbrella: Battman’s development capacity and territorial knowledge, Gotion’s manufacturing technology and the engineering and infrastructure power of Elecnor, a corporation present in more than 40 countries.
Why this alliance is a game changer
The Spanish electricity system is facing an unprecedented moment. The penetration of renewable energies already exceeds 50% of generation, which is an extraordinary achievement, but also a monumental management challenge. Generating clean energy is only half of the equation; the other half is being able to store it, manage it and inject it into the grid when it is really needed. This is where BESS projects move from being an add-on to becoming critical infrastructure. And it is exactly the vision that has driven this alliance: to stop treating storage as a mere add-on to renewable plants and turn it into a tailor-made long-term infrastructure.
Until now, the BESS sector in Spain has suffered from considerable fragmentation: manufacturers on one side, developers on another, engineering separately and permit management at a different table. This disconnection slows down projects, increases risks and hinders the bankability that investors and developers need to bet with confidence. Our partnership provides a direct answer to that problem. We offer a packaged solution that eliminates risk and simplifies the entire value chain: from cell manufacturing with Gotion technology, through Battman’s development and permitting, to Elecnor’s engineering, construction and operation.
What each partner brings to the alliance
Battman Storage: development, territory and strategic vision
At Battman, we do what we do best: identify opportunities, develop projects from scratch, manage the entire territorial processing cycle and ensure that each project is born with a solid foundation of technical and economic viability. We know the terrain, we understand the needs of utilities and large developers, and we know that the Iberian market is not only looking for batteries: it is looking for security of supply, meeting deadlines and optimized operation.
Gotion: world-class manufacturing technology
Gotion is one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers, with a solid track record in storage technology and a production capacity that guarantees scale and continuity of supply. Its incorporation to the alliance provides the technological solidity that large-scale BESS projects require.
Elecnor: engineering, infrastructure and global muscle
With a presence in more than 40 countries and a DNA deeply linked to infrastructure and energy engineering, Elecnor provides the execution capacity, technical solvency and bankability that turn projects into profitable and secure assets. Its 2025-2027 strategy places energy storage as a pillar of growth, which reinforces the long-term vision of this alliance.
Spain, at the epicenter of global storage
This alliance is not happening in a vacuum. It comes at a time when Spain has positioned itself as the second country in the world in the development of battery storage projects, behind only the United States, with a forecast of 16 GW deployed by 2030, according to the “EY Infrastructure Compass 2025” report.
The National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) sets the storage target at 22.5 GW, and the Ministry for Ecological Transition has launched a 750 million euro program to boost domestic battery manufacturing, in addition to 699 million euros in European funds to deploy new capacity. The pieces on the board are in motion and this alliance between Battman, Elecnor and Gotion positions us exactly where we want to be: at the center of the Spanish energy transformation.
Our vision: integrating generation and storage
Our customers are not just looking for batteries; they are looking for security of supply, on-time delivery and optimized operation. This alliance is a direct response to the needs of the Iberian market. – Elecnor Group, official statement
The model we are moving towards is one in which renewable generation and storage operate in an integrated manner, guaranteeing stability, efficiency and security for the Spanish electricity system. A model in which technical complexity is transformed into profitable and secure assets for investors, developers and, in short, for society as a whole. From Battman Storage, this agreement represents the validation of our strategic commitment and the beginning of a new stage in which our ambition is multiplied. We are ready to take on the challenge that the sector demands of us and to continue demonstrating that energy storage is, without a doubt, the piece that completes the puzzle of the energy transition in Spain.
